The wonderful English Language- Spellings

Hmm, the truly wonderful English Language. Does anybody realize just how much of a pain in the neck it is! I mean, come on, the spelling is a nightmare, you can't just have a word looking the way it sounds, NO, its has to be confusing as hell. I feel so sorry for basic school children, but then, sensible university graduates haven't even perfected the thing...nehoo lets look at some typically annoying words

Lieutenant- pronunciation: Loo-te-nant or (this is what gets me) lef-ten-ant
How on earth from that word, do u get that pronunciation?...sigh

One- pronunciation: wu-on
Hmm, what the...can you imagine teaching letter sounds to a preschool class and the child says "one" begins with the letter "W" can u really say NO?

Schizophrenia- pronunciation: skit-so-fre-ni-a
Where in that word is there a "T" why couldn't they just spell the blasted thing as it sounds?

Centre- pronunciation: Sen-ter
Well thats the English spelling, at least the US came close with "center"

these are just a few examples but you know i could go on forever.

Have you noticed that no other languages have Spelling Bees? Clearly the fact that only English has these, just points to the fact that English spelling is absurd and difficult.
